Photo Updates part 1 ! ( October 2008 )

So loads of stuff has been happening since the last post.

The team went to Korea & Japan to give demonstrations ( and learn !).

We completed manufacturing AcYut 2 ( code named sid ). and fitted the new Robotis motors ( thanks to Arun Kanchi @ Force10Networks- BITS Alumnus ).

etc etc.

So while the team gives their end semester exams, i thought i should atleast start with photos :) .

Team AcYut with the legendery Humanoid maker ‘Sugiura-san’

Team Acyut gets tips and tricks on Humanoid walking algorithms from the god himself. ‘Sugiura-san’ is a legendery name in the Humanoid world and he is known for building the Dynamizer series of Humanoids.  Check out his humanoids at Dynamizer’s Official Website (Japanese).

    dunno y u hv slowed down. Its very good to enjoy the moments after attaining a decent position but its extermely bad to forget ur goals and work. y don u realize that as of now u only a mechanical biped which runs from controlled center. Hv u thought wt it takes to make a high end motherboard comparable to today’s pc and then its interface wid camera and their AI.
    I personally feel u guys r too good in mech related stuff.. but whn it comes to crux of the matter i.e. on board computer and AI,u r far behind.
    Dude i think u shld concenrate more on work…..long way to go
    If u r not feeling the heat of competition, i will b thr soon…

    I think you mean slowed down in updating the blog. We apologize for that :).

    BTW you might be partially true about us being “initially” strong in building a mechanical biped ( But that was the case with AcYut 1 ). But wait till you meet AcYut 2!

    We have actually been working on AcYut 2 since August ‘08, to give you a sneak peak.

    He runs on 600Mhz onboard “computer” and he has a fair share of AI and RIK ( reflexive inverse kinematics ) . All this runs on Linux.

    And we definitely love competition! , Believe me we have enough. The Japanese, Koreans and Americans are all there.

    But one thing that we have learnt about humanoid builders around the world is that they are very good friends/advisers/colleagues first and competitors later.

    hi guys…….which software u r actually using for this mechanical HUMANOID!!!??? if you dont mind…..i really wanna know about the stuffs used in this robot……r they microcontrollers or something alse….?? i am just a 12th pass student but i am doing my own research on robotics scince i was in 10th and currently learning the C language and microcontrollers……!!! i guess……microcontrollers are 100% present in this robot cause the servos cant be controlled without them……….am i right…???

    Hi Rehaan,

    Its not an mechanical humanoid ! :)

    We use a number of software to get it from the point where we think of a move to the point where we implement the final move. ( Visual Basic, C/C++, Acyut Control Consol (ACC) etc )

    In all , there are about 28 Micro controllers in AcYut II , But our main one (CPU ) is an Arduino Mega (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9152).

    If you want to start or get comfortable with micro controllers, we highly recommend using an Arduino Board. It is the same board we teach in all our workshops that we do at various schools and colleges. ( Check out http://www.arduino.cc for more details and a nice “cheap” Board to start with is the Arduino Duemilanove (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=666) )

    Cost wise, The AcYut Project (AcYut I, II & III) is a 2 year old ongoing research project at BITS Pilani, hence the project costs involve much more than the actual cost of a humanoid. IF we take the cost of Hardware alone in an humanoid, the cost is between 1 to 10 lakhs . ( 30cm to 1 m ).

    1-10 LAKHS….!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!! I really need to go in a reputed college like DCE so as to get sponsors…!!! actually…….i am designing my own humanoid robot from the last one year and have acquired enough knowledge to build one……believe me….the Adruino u suggested to me….i’ve chosen it already…!!! amazing dude…..!!! but one thing which i couldnt understand is…….28 microcontrollers….?? for what??????????
